OFF SCHOOL
for summertime! By: KC Nañola

School is out and it is officially summer. Although spring is my favourite season of all, I also love summer and the fun it brings. Now that school is out, it is time to make plans.

My summer kicked off on July 1, as we celebrated Canada Day. It was a trip to Wonderland and the long awaited ride on the “Behemoth”. With around 66 thrilling rides including some high tech roller coasters, a huge water park, various game booths and live shows and concerts, a day trip is not enough.
Although I did not get the chance to see the colourful display of fireworks, my day in Wonderland ended with pink and blue cotton candies, golden yellow corn cobs and green slushy drinks. I guess, that’s as colourful as the display of fireworks! I will surely come back to complete my 66 thrilling rides!
A picnic at the park is also included in my summer list. Already, my mom has agreed that we will go visit the Edwards Garden. You see, Toronto boast an array of contemporary gardens and Edwards Garden for instance is designed to educate and inspire the people of Toronto and its visitors. I have been there once during a school field trip and a return trip is surely worth it as it offers an outdoor learning experience for all ages including programs, garden tours, nature day camps, field trip, etc.
Summer is definitely not complete without outdoor swim by the beach. However, as the gas price is really high these days, unfortunately, a long road trip as we usually do every summer is crossed-off. Instead, we’ll go on a drive downtown by the Beaches on Queen Street and Victoria Park. On July 13, we’ll have fun in the sun and help raise money for the Hospital for Sick Children by joining Toronto’s largest beach volleyball event taking place at Ashbridges Bay. No, we’re not playing but will be there to support, watch the game and of course, dip in the water. Come see “Heatwave beach Volleyball” and support the cause.
With so many things to do this summer, I am really excited and I hope everyone will have a terrific summertime. For now, I bet the sweetest thing in your mind is simply to sleep-in and lay around your pillows just like me. For the meanwhile, my alarm clock has been put to rest ......until next school year."
Whatever your plans are please be safe. Enjoy summertime! |
