Annual Pride Parade
By Khrysller Grace-Bosworth
Celebrating history, courage, diversity and their future under the steamy hot weather, the Annual Pride Parade was held in Toronto on Sunday, June 24. There were thousands of spectators, locals and tourists. This is Canada's largest gay pride celebration held annually, where participants including gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transsexuals march on a four-block route along the streets of Toronto's lively downtown "gaybourhood".
Since 1981, The Pride Parade in Toronto has grown into a phenomenal, wide-ranging arts and culture festival. Rich in diversity, it is widely known for its intricate colourful costumes and floats, boxers, bikinis, tube tops, no tops and bare naked bodies-all celebrating openness and togetherness. Spectators of the parade also enjoy the loud lively music and various performances of the participants, including water-gun shooting.
The festivity is successfully running for several years now. Reportedly, this years' parade brings in the local economy an estimated $80M. Also, in line with the week-long celebration is the Pride 2007 Community Fair and Marketplace. This educational, fun and entertaining event is created to showcase the exciting array of artisans, retail vendors, community organizations and much more. Something to experience!
Notably present during the parade was Toronto Mayor David Miller, Ontario Progressive Conservative leader John Tory
and other politicians. This one-of-a-kind fun and fabulous arts and culture festival is something that the City of Toronto can brag about!
